Former NSW Labor Premier Bob Carr says it wasnt an option to not make a commitment to net zero by 2050 as Australia would be the only country to stand out at the COP26 Climate Change Conference The Nationals have given their approval for a net zero by 2050 target for Australia and Prime Minister Scott Morrison released a plan on Tuesday detailing how to transition with a technology driven approach and no increase to energy bills It would have been a diplomatic outrage if Australia had turned up at this conference and said defying the rest of the developed world that werent accepting an appropriate responsibility Mr Carr told Sky News Australia I wonder what the National Party thought it was on about if they imagined that their country that our country could have stood out from all our partners and indeed the rest of the developed world So the government simply had to get there its a reflection on the prime ministers leadership and it took so long
